Alison Bruce

Alison Bruce started writing stories at age twelve and hasn't stopped since.

Copywriter and editor since 1992, her freelance career was interrupted while she helped family members through terminal illnesses and raised her two children on her own. When her sister was dying of cancer, she realized that life is too short not to follow your dreams.

While continuing to write, edit and design freelance, Alison Bruce writes crime and other genre fiction. Her protagonists are marked by their strength of character, the ability to adapt (sooner or later) to new situations and to learn from adversity - traits the author shares, and hopes to pass on to her own children.

Canadian Voices Considered for Canadian Studies Program

A review of Canadian Voices Volume 1 has been accepted for publication by the Department of North American Studies in Romania. The reviewer explains, "I have decided to present it to the members of the Central European Association for Canadian Studies are manifold. As a "powerful and moving collection, which stretches across the boundaries of age, skin colour, language, ethnicity and religion to give voice to the lives and experiences of ordinary Canadians," it may equally interest the literary critic and the Canadian literature historian, the Canadianist of various academic orientations, and the teacher who can use this volume as a resource book for classes in Canadian studies."

"...easy read, humorous and poignant."

alison bruce, have laptop -- will travel is inspired by favourite columnsts like Linwood Barclay and Erma Bombeck. The topics range from memoires like "My Father's Navy" and "Sweet Sixteen" to the wry "The Anti-Valentine", with some philosophical musings, like "3 Tips to Living Cooperatively."

Current topic: My Mother Made Me Do It: How my dearly departed Mum inspired Carmedy and Garrett: Legacy.

National Crime Writing Month
National Crime Writing Month is over...
but the blog lives on.

National Crime Writing Month (formerly National Crime Writing Fortnight) is an annual Crime Writers of Canada event which features activities in libraries and bookstores across Canada.

I started the blog as a virtual event for National Crime Writers Month in order to promote CWC authors. Throughout May, authors from Crime Writers of Canada shared an hour in the lives of their detectives on National Crime Writing Month Blog.
as part of a NCWM e-vent.

While we count down to next year's event, the blog lives on in "Off-Season Training". CWC authors will be providing three tips, tricks, thoughts, things to do or not do, for published and want-to-be-published writers, and readers who like to look behind the scenes.
